Why Jesus clean his disciples feet only. John 13:10
August 5th 2010 13:14
John 13:10 10Jesus answered, "A person who has had a bath needs only to wash his feet; his whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.” This short statement has quite a lot of meaning to us Christian.
But why only need to wash our feet when we already have a bath? Can’t we take our bath again? Is what Jesus mean is a physical bath? Of course it is not. What He really meant is about spiritual bath that is Baptism of water and spirit. Washing our feet meant forgiveness of sins.
As a Christian all of us already have our Baptism of water. Baptism of water is the symbols of cleansing our body, mind and souls and it is a must do before we engaged in Christian faith. Some might argue that it is not necessary to be baptize by water to become Christian as long as we have faith in Jesus Christ and his teachings, it will be enough to proclaim ourselves as a Christian. But when we look back to our Bible, even Jesus is baptized by John the Baptist. In Matthew 3:13-15; 13Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" 15Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented. So just like Jesus said in verse 15, baptism is to fulfill the righteousness.
Once we were baptize, we are already considered to have our bath. Being baptize make us become Christian and cleanse our body, mind and soul. Just like physical bath, Baptism is similar. We take bath daily to clean our body and make it fresher after a whole day working. By taking bath we clean all the dirt and the smell off our body. So by having baptism, we cleanse our self from all the sins of our past life. After being baptized, some of us Christian may be baptize by Holy Spirit to become a born again Christian. But not all will experience this; only the one choose by God.
Once we were baptize, we didn’t have to take the same baptism again. We don’t have to be baptize by water or Holy spirit for the second time. We only need to ask forgiveness of sins from our Father. That is what Jesus do by wash his disciples feet. Even after being baptize, we will be stained by sins on daily basis. To cleanse our self, we don’t need to be baptize again. But we only need to pray to our God and ask for his forgiveness for our sins that we made every day.
