Temptation And Lent
March 9th 2011 16:58
Lent is the time most catholic and apostolic church observes as a time for fasting. It is the mark the event when Jesus was alone in the wilderness for 40 days and 40 nights and that is how long Lent is. Lent starts from the Ash Wednesday and ended on Good Friday. But what famous most about Lent is the temptation within this period.
I for myself find it is more temptation during Lent. The temptation is greater than any other days. Jesus himself has been put into test during this period. The temptation of Christ has been the outline of most of the temptation we face every day and not just during Lent.
HUNGERThe fact it has been the first temptation has shown how vulnerable human are when they are hunger. It is not just the hunger for food. Hunger for power, success, lust or freedom also can contribute us committing sins. Hunger for food has lead people to steal just to fill for their hunger. Hunger for power and success have lead people to back stab their friend. While there are a lot of people really work hard for it, but there is some that are willing to deviate from right way just to ensure they achieve it. Hunger for lust has made people rape, go to prostitute and adultery. When most people feel the right way of God teaching has constraint their freedom, many of them fight for their freedom and thus make themselves further away from God.
POWERGreed for power is the second temptation was given to Jesus. The cruel world has made people hunger for power more than ever before. Human always want to have power over others and try to as powerful as they can possibly can. Because of this, some have willing to sell their faith so that they can have this power. Some are willing to give up their faith while some didn’t have time to practise their faith anymore. Power has made them move further away from the right track to our God.
PUT GOD INTO TESTWhen thing just not go as our liking, we start to question God and why God give this to us. When the question has been playing inside our head, we start to ask a lot from God and even testing him. The common thing we have put God into our test is something like this, “God if you really love me, please give me this and this”. Sound familiar isn’t it. And sometimes we don’t even realise we do it ourselves. Especially during grievances, we will question God existences.
How can we fight this temptation? Satan will sure try to tempted us using our own weakness and also questioning our strength. Jesus have been tempted by Satan using Jesus own strength and giving Jesus some questions. So, be prepared for any temptation. Try to analyze anything have fell on us because it might be Satan temptation.
Have faith and keep strengthening our faith is our only weapon against temptation. With God help together with our faith, we will win the temptation.
